Beware Tax Refund Scams at Year End

March 29, 2016 by Steve Webster

As the end of March approaches many companies align their end of financial year with that of the UK Government standard tax year which is 6th April.

Scammers are always on the look out for topical methods to dupe unwilling suspects into clicking on links in e-mails etc. and the end of financial year is no different.  We typically see clients reporting a rise in such SPAM so please be very cautious if you receive any e-mail which looks to be from HMRC.  Typically the e-mail will suggest you are due some form of refund and a malicious link within the e-mail will take you to a site looking very much like HMRC’s website but you will actually be giving the Spammers your HMRC username and password for them to further exploit.

If you are unsure as to the origins of a specific message please get in touch and we can advise.

A typical example of such an e-mail is shown below.
